Industry Support and Leadership Award for 2008


The Award:
Established by the Middle East Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, the award is presented to an industrial organization that contributed most in supporting and advancing ENT practice in the region.

To be awarded in 2008 to Mr. Mohamed Ali Jabr personally and Karl Storz Endoscopy, for their tremendous and continuous support to the Academy and their Leadership in advancing ENT practice in the area.

Best Ethical Marketing Practices Award for 2008


The Award: Established by the Middle East Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, the award is presented to an industrial organization for its Best Ethical Marketing practices in the area.

To be Awarded to Mr. Ahed Ghazal personally and GSK, for their moral, principled and fair marketing practice which is clearly recognizable all over the region.

    

The “Karl Storz” Award for Excellence in Teaching


The Award: Established in association with Karl Storz-Endoscope and bearing the
name of its founder, the award honors the person who contributed the most to the
education of ENT physicians in the Middle East.

To be awarded in 2008 to Dr Khairy Alhag Abu Shara Senior consultant and
ex-chairman of ENT medical council - Kuwait for his untiring commitment to
advancing continuous medical education for Otolaryngologists in Kuwait, the GCC
and the Middle East.
Dr Khairy directed the first temporal bone course in Kuwait and has helped introduce
advanced techniques in the area through training courses in FESS, Laser surgery,
Rhinoplasty and Cochlear Implants. He is held in the highest regard by all of his
students and colleagues across Kuwait, the Gulf and the rest of the Middle East.

 
 

The “Ingeborg and Erwin Hochmair”Award for Service to the Deaf


The Award: Established in association with Medel Medical Electronics and bearing
the names of its co-founders, the award honors programs and physicians who contributed
the most to helping the deaf community in the Middle East.

To be awarded in 2008 to the Jeddah Institute for Speech & Hearing (JISH)
and its founder Sultana Alireza-Zahid.
Since its foundation in 1991, JISH has been a shining example of community based,
non-profit, and non-governmental action on behalf of the hearing and speech
impaired in the area. JISH has a significant research and development program that
produced culturally appropriate assessment tools and materials in use across the
Middle East. Through continuous professional development and a sense of mission,
JISH employees maintain world class skills and full dedication to the service of their
patients.

 
 

The “Arab Health” Personal and Professional Achievement Award


The Award: Established to honor the otolaryngologists who exemplified through
their personal life and professional careers deep commitment to the culture and
values of the different communities in the Middle East along with determination to
further scientific, medical and general development in the area.

To be awarded in 2008 to Professor Mohamed Chafik Khalifa.
The professional career of Professor Khalifa has stretched over the last forty years
and he demonstrated a total and untiring commitment to the advancement of
professional and training standards of Otolaryngology in Egypt. He established the
first temporal bone laboratory in the area and chaired the first IFOS meeting to be
hosted in the Middle East. He is held up as a role model by many young
otolaryngologists that he trained and colleagues in Egypt and across the Middle East.
